Elizabeth Taylor is considered one of the best British-American actresses in the history of show business. Born on February 27th, 1932, in England, "Liz" started training in ballet at the age of three. Her parents, both from North Carolina, returned with Elizabeth Taylor from England when World War Two began. They moved to California, which, combined with her mother's own former acting career, aided Elizabeth Taylor in being signed by Universal Pictures for whom she played a role in her first movie at the age of only nine. Her second movie in 1943, "Lassie Come Home" is where Elizabeth Taylor gained real attention and she achieved child star status in her first lead role as Velvet Brown in "National Velvet" in 1944. Elizabeth Taylor became known for her trademark violet eyes and later, seemingly endless marriages and divorces. At the height of her career, she always seemed to be involved in romantic scandals and was the center of attention for the rag magazines.

Elizabeth Taylor won her first Academy Award for a lead role in 1960 for "Butterfield 8" having already been nominated three times in the previous three years, an astonishing feat. Elizabeth Taylor was nominated in 1957 for "Raintree Company," 1958 for "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," and in 1959 for "Suddenly Last Summer."

In 1963 Elizabeth Taylor became Hollywood's highest paid movie star when she accepted 1 million dollars for her role as Cleopatra in the movie of the same name, where she met and fell in love with co-star Richard Burton. At the time it was considered an enormous scandal because both of them were married while having their affair during the shooting of the film. Elizabeth Taylor would go on to other films with, and work in stage and television projects with Burton, and later married him twice.

Elizabeth Taylor was married eight times to seven husbands, as previously mentioned, she married Richard Burton twice, but divorced him twice and had two marriages after their second divorce. Elizabeth Taylor is most noted for her work in Hollywood films, but also had an extensive career on both the stage and in television, even appearing twice on "The Simpsons," once as herself and another time performing the voice work for the character "Maggie." The American Film Institute ranked Elizabeth Taylor seventh among the greatest female stars of all time.
